Care and Maintenance

Sandstone is a clastic sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand-sized (0.0625 to 2 mm) mineral particles or rock fragments (clasts). Most sandstone is composed of quartz or feldspar (both silicates) because they are the most resistant minerals to weathering processes at the Earth’s surface

Do’s

  • Blot spills fast; rinse with mild pH-neutral stone soap.
  • Use entry mats/runners to block sand, grit, and moisture.
  • Dust-mop floors often; grit is the #1 scratch culprit.
  • Use coasters, trivets & placemats; keep heat off stone.
  • Book routine Stone Seal maintenance to keep marble pristine.

Dont’s

  • Use Acidic or high alkaline cleaning products
  • Use scouring powders & abrasives, they can scratch the natural stone
  • Use coatings such as waxes on natural stone floors
  • Use plastic or hard rubber pads, they can scratch natural stone floors
  • Use worn vacuums; wheels can scratch stone.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

How often should sandstone be professionally cleaned?

Every 12-18 months, based on use. Our Dublin Sandstone Restoration service deep-cleans grout, lifts grit, refreshes sealer, and preserves a natural, luxurious finish across high-traffic areas.

What does sandstone care cost in Dublin & Leinster?

It depends on area, condition, access, and scope—Cleaning, Sealing, Polishing, Repairs, or Full Diamond Grinding. We provide fixed, written quotes after survey, tailored to premium homes and design projects.

Do my sandstone floors need sealing? How often?

Yes—every 12–36 months. We use premium penetrating sealers that keep sandstone looking completely natural while resisting oils, dyes, and spills, lowering maintenance and extending polish longevity.

What’s included in full sandstone floor restoration?

Full diamond grinding removing top surface and any lippage, deep cleaning, repairs, grout reconditioning or replacing, honing, precision polishing, and penetrating sealing—reviving to a new, elegant finish while respecting the stone’s character.

Will sealing make daily sandstone care easier?

Yes. Penetrating sealers reduce absorption so soils sit on the surface longer, making cleaning quicker and safer. They preserve a pure, natural look and consistent sheen in high-traffic zones.
