Project Overview
When Nikki, owner of Havana boutique in Donnybrook, sought to update her store’s interior, she faced a significant challenge. The tiled floor, once functional, had deteriorated with cracks, loose grout, and an uneven surface, detracting from the boutique’s luxurious ambience. Initially, Suzanne considered a deep clean and repair of the tiles to avoid major renovations. However, this approach wouldn’t achieve her vision of a seamless, elegant interior that complemented her high-end fashion collections.
Nikki turned to Stone Seal for a solution that balanced aesthetic sophistication with practicality. Upon visiting the boutique, Philip Scallan, Director of Stone Seal, identified an opportunity to elevate the space with a cutting-edge approach. Suzanne desires a cohesive, light-reflective floor aligned perfectly with Stone Seal’s innovative Mineral Skin overlay
The Challenges
Existing Floor Issues
The cracked tiles, degraded grout, and structural instability required more than surface repairs. To ensure a durable and flawless finish, the tiles were mechanically ground, and an epoxy layer was applied to stabilise the base and prevent cracks from reappearing.
Reception Desk Redesign
The oversized mahogany reception desk also posed a challenge. Its bulky design clashed with the modern aesthetic Suzanne envisioned. Stone Seal restructured the desk, removing its outdated elements and reinforcing its stability. It was then seamlessly wrapped in Mineral Skin to match the new floor.
The Mineral Skin Advantage
Stone Seal proposed Mineral Skin, an ultra-micro cement overlay that creates a seamless, durable, and customisable finish. Applied at just 2–4 mm, it provided a contemporary, light-toned surface ideal for Havana’s boutique environment.
