Project Overview
For this new build in Raheny, Dublin, client Laura French envisioned an open-plan space that would seamlessly blend the kitchen and living areas. Her goal was to feature a striking diamond-polished concrete floor with medium aggregate exposure, creating a visually captivating and durable finish to elevate the entire home.
The Challenges
Step Transition: The four steps leading into the open-plan space required seamless integration with the main floor, without visible lines or height differences. Stone Seal’s challenge was to ensure each step appeared as a natural extension of the polished concrete floor, establishing a continuous, uninterrupted flow from the entry into the open-plan area.
Shower Slope: Creating a functional shower slope within the polished concrete floor required exact precision in pour depths and grading. The slope needed to direct water flow effectively without disrupting the overall design, while preserving the consistent, medium aggregate exposure that gives the floor its terrazzo-like appeal.
The Solution
To address these unique challenges, Stone Seal implemented a detailed, step-by-step approach that combined precise groundwork, coordinated trade efforts, and tailored formwork to deliver a flawless finish.
The Result
The completed flooring achieved everything the client envisioned: a cohesive, open-plan living space with a smooth transition from the steps into the kitchen. The light/medium aggregate exposure provides a terrazzo-like finish that complements the modern design of the residence. The shower slope integrates seamlessly, both visually and functionally, adding an extra layer of practicality without disrupting the design
